When asked to describe oneself, what does one say? I am 22 years old and currently reside in Kirksville, Missouri, United States. I am the daughter of two loving individuals who have been married 34 years, and the older sister of a 20 year old self-proclaimed “sandwich artist.” I work full-time as an Applied Behavior Analysis implementer for children with autism, and attend school part-time where I major in psychology. My life wouldn’t be complete if it was lived without my three year old dog, Zuni or 13 year old cat, Mary. These are the simple facts I most often use to paint a broad picture of myself. But you’re not interested in straightforward configurations, are you? No, if that were the case you wouldn’t be here.
I have existed on this spot of the internet for nearly four years now, and in that time the changes I have undergone have been vast. In the beginning my journal was a tool to record my escapades as I navigated my newfound life in the college realm. Since that time, priorities have changed and I feel as though I have come into my own. Though today this journal mostly serves as a tool for random bouts of self-reflection, I am learning and changing and growing as I go. I would be honored if you found my journey something of an intrigue, and wanted to come on the journey with me.
My goal as I move through life is to live in the most honest and open form that I can. I strive to develop within myself a sense of transparency that has been lacking from my life in many of the years gone by. I cannot promise that what I say will always be met with harmony, but it is never my intent to cause contention. There was a time in my life where I believed offense helped nourish growth, but now I seek to remember the words so eloquently professed by Plato: “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.”
This is my battle. This is my joy.
